*Cleansing and Charging Your Gems

Simple. Intentional. Rooted in tradition.

Every gemstone carries natural energy. And just like us, it benefits from a reset.

At Moe Gems, we keep this process simple and grounded. You don’t need anything complicated ...just a few thoughtful steps and your intention.

The Basics

1. Cleanse

  • This clears away any energy your stones may have absorbed.

You can do this with:

  • Smoke (sage or palo santo)
  • Selenite
  • Sound or breath
  • Gentle intention

2. Recharge

  • This restores your stones back to their natural state.

The most trusted methods:

  • Moonlight (especially full moon)
  • Selenite
  • Clear Quartz

Moonlight Charging

Keeping it Simple....

Set Your Intention

Hold your gems and say silently or aloud:

I release what no longer serves and invite the moon’s light to restore and renew.

Timing

  • A few hours is enough
  • Overnight is great
  • Bring them in before morning dew if possible

Placement

  • Use glass, ceramic, or wood
  • Avoid stacking
  • Place where moonlight can reach (outside or window)

If You Stay Indoors - That’s completely fine

  • Use a windowsill, or pair with Selenite or Quartz

Morning After

  • Wipe gently if needed, thank your stones, and wear them again

Moe Gems Tip:  Rotate your pieces each month so every gem has time to reset and recharge.

Deep Dive: Understanding the Process

For those who want to go deeper

Smoke Cleansing: Sage, Palo Santo & Intention

Smoke has been used across cultures for centuries as a way to cleanse energy and reset a space or object.

When used with gemstones, it’s believed to:

  • Clear stagnant or heavy energy
  • Restore the stone’s natural vibration
  • Prepare it for intention or recharge

Choosing Your Smoke Tool

White Sage (Salvia apiana)

  • Strong, deep cleanse
  • Best for resetting energy completely
  • Traditionally used for purification and protection

Blue Sage or California Sage

  • Softer, more gentle cleanse
  • Good for emotional balance and everyday use

Palo Santo (Holy Wood)

  • Light, uplifting energy
  • Often used after cleansing to invite positivity
  • Ideal for daily rituals or maintenance

How to Think About It

  • Sage clears everything out
  • Palo Santo brings good energy back in

Used together, they create a balanced process:

Cleanse → then invite

How to Smoke Cleanse Your Stones

  1. Light the tip and let it gently smoke
  2. Set your intention
  3. Pass your stones through the smoke slowly
  4. Allow the smoke to surround them
  5. Extinguish safely

Always use a fire-safe dish and ensure good airflow.

A Note on Sourcing

White sage and palo santo both have deep cultural roots. When possible, choose ethically and sustainably sourced materials to respect their origins and traditions.

Hematite: What It Actually Does

One of the most common misunderstandings in the crystal space is how Hematite works.

Many believe it “charges” other stones. In reality, it does something entirely different.

The Origin of the Idea

Hematite is often placed with other stones. After some time, those stones feel lighter or clearer.

This led to the belief that Hematite charges them.  But what’s actually happening is grounding - not charging.

What Hematite Does (Energetically)

Hematite is an iron oxide mineral (Fe₂O₃), known for its dense, stabilizing nature.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is associated with:

  • Anchoring the Shen (spirit)
  • Drawing energy downward
  • Stabilizing excess or scattered Qi

Because of this, Hematite is:

  • Absorptive
Pulls in excess or chaotic energy
  • Protective
    Creates a grounded energetic field
  • Balancing
    Discharges overstimulation

The Key Distinction

  • Hematite does not charge stones.
  • It clears and stabilizes them.

Think of it like this:

  • Selenite restores
  • Moonlight recharges
  • Hematite grounds

When to Use Hematite

  • After emotional or heavy wear
  • When stones feel “overloaded”
  • Before placing stones under moonlight

When to Avoid It

  • With very high-vibration stones long-term
  • In water (it may rust due to iron content)
  • As your only charging method

Moe Gems Recommended Process

Keep it simple, do not over think it....

For a balanced, intentional routine:

Step 1: Cleanse

  • Smoke, sound, or intention

Step 2: Ground (Optional)

  • Use Hematite to discharge excess energy

Step 3: Recharge

  • Moonlight or Selenite

Final Note:

There is no perfect way to do this.

Your intention matters more than the method.

Even if the sky is cloudy…

Even if you’re indoors…

Even if it’s simple…

Your connection to your stones is what brings them to life.
