Nevada Variscite is an American gem material prized for its turquoise-like beauty, but it is a different mineral entirely. Variscite is a hydrated aluminum phosphate and is typically greener than turquoise because its color is most often influenced by trace chromium rather than copper. 

Historically, variscite has a deeper “human story” than many people realize. Archaeological evidence shows variscite was used in Neolithic jewelry (beads and ornaments) and traveled across regions through early trade networks, valued for its rare green color long before modern gem marketing existed.
